The special exhibition has been a curatorial collaboration among NAA Artist Members Skip Motes, Marge Motes, Susan Spellman, Ghlee Woodworth, and Jessica Gill of the Newburyport Public Library Archival Center. All works will also be for sale. September 27 at 1pm there will be a slide show of the works.
“13 the Musical”, will run October 10-12. Featuring a local cast of talented teens and an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, (PARADE, THE LAST FIVE YEARS, BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY) 13- is a high-energy musical for all ages.
The story follows Evan Goldman, plucked from his fast paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents divorce. Surrounded by an array of simpleminded middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!
Everyone’s favorite and timeless classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, will run from November 13-16 and 20-23.
Harper Lee’s classic story of courage in the face of bigotry comes to the Firehouse stage this November. First adapted as a riveting, must-see film starring Gregory Peck, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD was adapted for the stage and first presented in 1990 in Monroeville, AL, where it continues to be produced annually on the town square. This adaptation brilliantly unleashes the tension of the book, and how the courageous white lawyer, Atticus Finch, watched by his two children and their friend, defends, not only his black client, but also his own family, against small-town prejudice and violence.
“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand.” —Atticus Finch
