Ready to go on a Wilde ride? Make plans to see Oscar Wilde’s – The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by Anne Easter Smith. This is part of the Summer Classics Staged Readings of great plays by August Strindberg, Anton Checkov, Molière & Oscar Wilde, funded in part by a generous grant from New England BioLabs.
First performed in 1895, this play’s high farce and witty dialogue have helped make it Wilde’s most enduringly popular play. The Importance of Being Earnest is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrief, maintain fictitious personæ in order to escape burdensome social obligations. Working within the conventions of late Victorian society, the play’s major theme is the triviality with which the culture treats anything that might be of personal value in favor of appearances.
Friday, September 19, at 8:00 PM, Saturday, September 20, at 8:00 PM, Sunday, September 21, at 7:00 PM; All tickets are $15.00.
Back by popular demand the Actor’s Studio is reprising their Halloween Party fundraiser in October. This will be a fun local event with proceeds to benefit this little gem of a theater at the Tannery. Food, auction items, costumes and music by -Don’t Call Me Shirley- are sure to please.
The Actors Studio is inviting female writers to submit an original work (10-20 minutes in length) for a March 2015 production, to help celebrate Women’s History Month.
The focus will be on the journey of women through relationships, work, family, friendships, body image, ageing, struggles, vulnerability, courage, chaos, uncertainties, and certain undeniable certainties. We expect that the wisdom, drama and insights presented in these short plays will engage, entertain, inspire, amuse and take us on a journey through some butt kicking experiences. We welcome drama, comedy, satire and stories you may wish to tell. The dramatic pieces, while written by women, may indeed include men.
Important Dates: Submission Date: November 1, 2014; Selection Date: December 15, Performance March 2015. If selected, your play will be included in the production titled: Women through the Ages: Like a Tug of War.
