The outpouring of support for this year’s 117th Boston Marathon has been staggering. A desire to give back to the thousands of new applicants who wished to run or volunteer this year has given birth to the Boston Marathon World Run website and app designed to allow everyone the ability to take part in this year’s event. There is no cost to participate but a donation to the One Fund is recommended.
Subscribers will received a running number, bib and opportunity to be part of the race in a real way.
“We’ve seen a tremendous outpouring of support and a high-level of interest in participating this year,” Tom Grilk, executive director, Boston Athletic Association said in a release.
“While we were able to increase our field size by 9,000 to 36,000 runners, we can only physically accommodate so many runners on the course and we were nowhere near meeting demand. Through technology, we wanted to create something that engendered that same sense of community and resiliency as the race itself, ensuring that no one would be denied the chance to have their own 2014 Boston Marathon experience.”
Watch or run with this year’s field on Monday, April 21.
