This year marks the ninth production of ‘The Voices of Christmas Past’ at the Custom House Maritime Museum.
Conceived, written, and directed by Kate Gilbert, this program seeks to immerse viewers in holidays past through historic description, invoking a sense of nostalgia for Newburyport’s past as a hub of global shipping.
This year, the program is taken from the book, “Reminiscences of a Nonagenarian” written by Sarah Anna Emery in 1879. As a ninety one year old woman, Sarah wrote of her own experience, and the history of Newburyport as she had lived it. She describes Thanksgivings, Christmases, and many other events around the town that evoke a distinct sense of her time.
These short performances are FREE to the public and run during Invitation Nights on December 6th and December 13th at the Custom House Maritime Museum, 25 Water Street, in Newburyport, Massachusetts.
Performances are at 6:30, 7:30, and 8:30pm, and run about fifteen minutes long.
You will not want to miss this annual event! Please come and join us while you are out and about on Invitation Nights!
