Attend the Newburyport MA Actors Studio presents The Way Life Should Be held May 4,5,6, 11,12,13, 2012 at 40 Water Street .
Leslie Powell’s, The Way Life Should Be, is a thought provoking play that focuses on the first meeting of a young man and his birth mother. Told from the perspective of Elaine, who, as a teenager, surrendered her son for adoption. the action focuses on her meeting Grady, who at 27, already has a life full of challenges.
Ms. Powell has created compelling characters and, through them, shows us the inevitable wounds incurred by all whose lives include adoption. Her play offers no easy assessments, nor any simple solutions; rather it inspires us all to go deeper in understanding each other and challenges us to expand our definition of ‘family’.
Mother and adult son meet amid a flurry of expectations and unresolved feelings. Strong and often humorous, this play offers no simplistic packaging for this complex subject matter, rather it helps to deepen our collective understanding of what adoption means to all those who lives are part of this unique experience.
