Local friends are doing what they can to support a 2009 Newburyport High School graduate badly injured in a van crash in New Zealand. Below is an excerpt from the Daily News article.
“Margaret “Meg” Theriault, 21, of Salisbury, was reported to be in critical condition following surgery to treat a head injury suffered in the accident that killed three of her Boston University classmates.
Her parents, Todd and Deb Theriault, have traveled to New Zealand to be by her side. In the meantime, Greater Newburyport is mobilizing to raise money to help the family pay expenses and to bring Meg home when she is recovered enough to travel.
WCVB-TV, the Newburyport Current’s news partner, reports that Theriault, was with a group of Boston University study abroad students on a weekend trip when the van they were riding in drifted to the side of the road and then rolled over as the driver tried to correct course near the North Island town of Taupo.
Three students died and five others were injured in the crash. Theriault’s injuries were the most serious among those who survived.”
