The Newburyport Whale Watch – An Amazing Day!
The Newburyport Whale Watch on board the Prince of Whales departs most days from the boardwalk in downtown Newburyport. Their website is www.newburyportwhalewatch.com.
I took someone out this weekend who had never been on a whale watch and she was amazed by what we saw! 5 humpback whales, including one repeatedly breaching (jumping out of the water), at times very close to the boat.
Captain Billy expertly brings the boat close enough to the whales and turns off the engines, giving us incredible views. He showed us a basking shark, and brought us so close that this 25+ foot shark swam under the bow of the boat.
On Board are several intern zoologists and Dianna, who has been with this boat for 12 years. She maintains a website too, http://whalesightings.blogspot.com , where she posts pictures of every trip and the wildlife we see.
