Whether you feel like relaxing under the stars on a Saturday night or picnicking on a blanket during a Sunday afternoon, the Maudslay Arts Center Summer Concert Series provides the perfect local setting for your summer’s entertainment pleasure.
Celebrating its 21st season, the 2013 MAC performance schedule will offer something for various musical tastes.
Choose from diverse genres such as international jazz phenom, Grace Kelly, award-winning country with Don Campbell, or renowned vocalist Rebecca Parris.
The series opens with the blue grass music of The Spinney Brothers on Saturday, July 6.
Saturday concerts begin at 7 p.m. (Picnic area open at 6-)
Sunday afternoon performances begin at 2 p.m. (lawn open at 1-) and are scheduled to include The Shaw Brothers on July 21, Liz Frame and the Kickers on Aug. 18, and The 60s Invasion on Aug. 25.
Maudslay Arts Center is located at 95 Curzon Mill Road in Newburyport. These concerts are held rain or shine, moving inside to the MAC Concert Barn when weather dictates.
Concert goers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner which can be casual or as elaborate as a gourmet meal with tablecloth and flowers and whatever suits the patron’s fancy (please, no candles per state law).
Delicious desserts such as seasonal cobblers, brownies, and Hodgie’s ice cream, and beverages may be purchased during intermission, all served by dedicated MAC volunteers, who continue to make this non-profit series happen.
Saturday performances start at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m. Patio seating (tables and chairs) is $25, while lawn seating (bring your own chairs or blankets) is $20. Children 12 and under are free.
Sunday performances start at 2 p.m. with gates opening at 1 p.m. General admission is $12 with open seating on the patio and lawn. Children 12 and under are free.
Save the date on July 27. International jazz artist Grace Kelly is rapidly making a name in the jazz community. She is a singer, saxophonist, composer, lyricist, arranger, producer and educator. With Kelly music lovers seem to be divided into two groups, those who marvel at her proficiency, creativity and accelerating growth, and those who have yet to encounter the 20-year-old prodigy. The ranks of the former category are growing by the day.
These warm, musical days and nights are the times many of us yearn for during snowy, grey February.
