Think Tanks by definition bring together a “body of experts” to discuss ongoing economical and political problems. Typically opposing sides are brought together in a low key, nonjudgmental forum that uses a moderator to find common ground before exploring new possibilities.
This fall is the third annual Nantucket Project. The “Nantucket Project” (TNP) was organized by Chairman Tom Scott of Nantucket Nectars fame and Executive Director Kate Brosnan. It does not employ non-profit status and is backed by a star-studded board of directors which includes Google Chairman Eric Schmidt and Barclays CEO Robert Diamond.
TNP’s stated purpose is to bring together innovators, artists and thinkers with an eye on knowledge and cultural enrichment. The annual convention attempts to start conversations about policy issues that impact all of us in an increasingly small and complicated world. Social, environmental and economic issues are defined and explored by artist and PHD alike to bring left and right brain possibilities into the open for consideration.
This year Mikhail Gorbachev who was scheduled to speak needed to cancel his appearance, but John McCain and Vladimir Pozner are on the program to present. John Kerry offered commentary last year on gridlock in Washington. As the golden mean dictates the best answers to questions are often found at the quiet grey center and seldom in the black or white extremes. The Nantucket Project is sold out for this year but keeps a Library of past videos and clips to get a taste of the best discussions and viewpoints from the summit.
